British nurse with Ebola in 'critical' condition after ZMapp drug runs out

The condition of British nurse Pauline Cafferkey – who was diagnosed with Ebola on her return to Glasgow from Sierra Leone – is now critical.

Her condition has gradually deteriorated over the past two days, the Royal Free Hospital in north London said in a statement today.

She reportedly contracted the disease on Christmas day in Sierra Leone.

The 39-year-old agreed to be treated by the experimental new method which is ‘not proven to work’, while she is being cared for in a quarantine tent.

Doctors have been forced to take the drastic step as the drug ZMapp which was used to successfully treat fellow British volunteer nurse William Pooley could not be obtained.

The supplies of the ‘miracle drug’ ZMapp, which was used to treat British Ebola survivor William Pooley, have reportedly completely run out.
