Read Caitlyn Jenner Emotional Acceptance Speech That Moved Her Family To Tears
Caitlyn Jenner was awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY awards and her acceptance speech inspired the masses.
The 65-year-old accepted the award with a 10 minute speech on the plights of the transgender community, particularly teens struggling with coming to terms with their identity.
She said: ‘If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead. Because the reality is I can take it. But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it.’
During her talk Caitlyn became emotional and was seen several times dabbing her eyes.
Things got even more teary as she began thanking her family.
‘I always wanted my children to be so proud of their dad — for what he’d accomplished in his life. You guys have given me so much support, and I’m so, so grateful to have all of you in my life.’
The reality star also explained how difficult she’s found the last few months, but explained it’s even harder on the younger generations.
‘This transition has been harder on me than anything I could have imagined. Trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect.’
She received a wave of support on Twitter, with one user commenting her speech could ‘save lives’.
Caitlyn was supported by her daughters Kylie and Kendall, along with step-daughters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, and her sons Brandon and Brody.
Caitlyn wore a striking white Versace gown and quipped that she now understands the difficulties women face in picking the right outfit.
‘Picking out this outfit, OK, girls, I get it. You’ve got to get the shoes, the hair, the makeup, the whole process. It was exhausting.’
