Wednesday Daily Devotional By Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Diet 20th July, 2016) - Don't Patronize Fear
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalms 23:5
The Faith level of the Palmist has never ceased to amaze or inspire me.
He knew what it meant to be persecuted. He was betrayed by those dearest to him including his very own son. He had to live in caves at a time and even disguise himself as a mad man just so he could survive. But, he still trusted in the Lord.
In our opening text, we see something very important in David’s testimony. He said “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me...” The word 'shadow' implies a reflected image of someone or something so, when a shadow is seen, it means that the object itself is close by.
So when David used the tenses 'walk through the valley of the shadow of death', you can tell he referred to a seemingly deadly situation.
David literally said that even if he perceived death lurking in the corner, he would have no fear because he knew that God was with him. What an assurance of protection and victory! Note that for the new creation, we do not just have God with us, but we have God in us. With God in you there is no place for fear in your life.
DECLARATION
I do not patronize fear. The greater one dwells in me, therefore I am safe from all harm.
