Saturday Daily Devotional By Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Diet, 6th May 2017) - A Diligent Heart

“He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” Proverbs 13:3-4

From the first part of our opening scripture, we see that the power to keep your life lies in your mouth.

The thoughts of your heart are equivalent to the words of your mouth.

Be careful of what gets into your heart and out of your mouth. Your mouth can be your destruction, and can also be your life source. It could kill your whole body or, could give life to your whole body. This is why it is important to keep your mouth.

To keep your mouth means to ensure your words are consistent with God's Word. The second part of today's text talks about one very vital character for success, DILIGENCE.

Diligence is a Spirit, which creates an attitude that directs your life. Every man that imbibes the character of diligence would always be made fat. That is, such a man would be fulfilled and satisfied.

Proverbs 22:29 says,
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”

When a man is diligent, he would have no relationship with poverty.

Mean men are men of low class/standard (poor men). Prosperity does not follow a man because he is a Christian. No! Prosperity can only follow those who are diligent in their works.

When you are diligent, and you have the Word (an added advantage), you become a super success. A diligent man is extremely disciplined. He never gives excuses. He never puts comfort above his work.

A sluggard would always put comfort above work. A sluggard heart would never choose a seed over bread.

A diligent man recognizes that no matter how bountiful the harvest is, he still has to sow to get a bigger harvest. A diligent man appreciates a seed, while a sluggard, the harvest. A diligent man ensures that every resource that leaves his hand produces more resources.
Diligence would power you into success. Take up diligence as a character; it would set you apart.
