Wednesday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Diet, 19th July, 2017) - Sons are followers

Pastor David Okoye
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are they the sons of God.” Romans 8:14

There is the mindset you have got to imbibe in your work with God and with the leaders that have been placed over you. That is the mindset of followership. Notice that our opening text says “For as many as are led…” The word ‘led’ implies that there is a following after something.

If you are being led, then it means you are following.

You see, no child of God should lead himself. If you are leading yourself in the house of the Lord and in your walk with the Lord, then you've got to determine, whose son you are, because there is a leading for the sons of God. Your proof of sonship is in your ability to follow.

In the dispensation of Noah, there was a strong bond between fathers and sons. To the sons of that age, their fathers' words/instructions were likened to the instructions of God. So, no matter how absurd a father's instruction was, a son would have to adhere to it. So we understand why it was only Noah's sons (and their wives) that stuck with him during the building of the ark. They probably didn't like the idea of the Ark, or believe that God was really going to destroy the world. They must have been tired, discouraged and insulted by those around them – yet, they stuck with Noah for the singular reason that he was their father.

No one else could follow Noah, but his sons did: and only they escaped the flood.

We see the same attitude in Jesus when he walked on the earth; He wanted the cup of the Father to pass over him, but still submitted to the will of the Father. This same attitude has to be in you!

The same way the sheep knows the voice of their shepherd, and follow, you must recognize the voice of the Spirit of God and His leading in your life and follow.

Recognize, that God speaks to and leads us through His Word, His Spirit and His leaders in your life.

If you are His sheep, then you've got to incline your ears rightly to these three categories. If you are not a son, it's only a matter of time before you fall of the train.

True sons will always be graced to do the work even in the midst of challenges and experience victory at the end. Be a son, be a follower!

DECLARATION:
I am led by God's Spirit. I hear and follow against all odds – not despising the authority he has placed above me.

SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE:
John 10:27; Proverbs 4:20
