A clerk and interpreter at the Kasangati Grade One Magistrates’ Court in Kampala was suspended for wearing a ‘short and tight dress’.

Namuwanga Rosemary was served with a suspension letter for dressing indecently on official business to the permanent secretary’s office.

She was suspended for 2 weeks on Thursday by the Secretary to the Judiciary Josephine Muwonge.

Mrs Muwonge deemed her attire inappropriate and in violation of judicial service standards.

Ms Namuwanga had gone to the Judiciary Secretary’s office to complain about non-payment of her salary and allowances.

She said her money was not reflecting on her bank account.

According to the suspension letter, Namuwanga was dressed in a “very short and tight dress which by description does not fall within the general acceptable standards of the Establishment Notice No. 1 of 2017.”

Below is a copy of her suspension letter and the dress that got her in trouble:

Recall that the Ministry of Public Service in July issued a notice warning public officers over dressing in a manner that does not portray good work etiquette.
