40 Christians including women and children butchered by Fulani herdsmen in Plateau

At least forty persons have reportedly been killed in yet another attack in Bassa local government area of Plateau state.

A source said the attack occurred in Miango district of the area on Monday morning.

But Tyopev Terna, spokesman of the state police command, could not confirm the incident.

“I am not aware of this attack. I just left a live radio programme and I have not been briefed on any attack, he told TheCable.

The attack is coming 24 hours after six persons were killed in Taagbe, also a village in Bassa LGA.

In that incident, gunmen invaded the village with sophisticated weapons, moving from house to house.

“They razed down a lot of houses and destroyed properties worth millions of naira,” a witness had said.

Recently, communities in some parts of the Plateau have come under incessant attacks by unknown gunmen.

On Tuesday last week, Moses Gwom, former Plateau head of service and two other persons were killed in an attack in Barkin-Ladi area.

Udie Adie, the state commissioner of police, had earlier promised that the command would deploy officers to fish out the perpetrators of the various attacks.

“We shall also identify critical stakeholders within the area and work with them toward ending these attacks. We must find a way to end these incessant attacks on the locals,” he said after the Saturday incident.

“For now, we shall keep our officers and men on the ground to protect the area; we shall try to ensure that no one takes the law into his hands.”
