Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 24th OCT, 2017) - Do not let it slip

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. Hebrews 2:1

In your walk with God, it is important you walk in the light of His Word; not your colleague/friend’s opinion, or your constitution.

From our opening text, we see that it is possible to let the Word of God slip away. Sadly, so many Christians are unaware that they have allowed God’s Word drift away from them, because they have failed to give the more earnest heed to the Word.

The NIV rendering refers to the underlined part as paying the most careful attention. That is to say, those who do not pay careful attention to the Word would let it slip. The question now is how then do we give the more earnest heed to the Word?

The AMP rendering of our opening text says,
For this reason [that is, because of God’s final revelation in His Son Jesus and because of Jesus’ superiority to the angels] we must pay much closer attention than ever to the things that we have heard, so that we do not [in any way] drift away from truth.

One of the ways of giving the more earnest heed to the things which you have heard is by hearing them over and over again.

It is often said that repetition is the key to a lasting impression. This is because as you keep hearing and doing things over and over again, it creates an indelible mark in your life.

For example, you find out that sometimes, you do not need to sit down to memorize the lyrics of a particular song; but as you keep on listening to that song, the lyrics stick. You may not have made a conscious decision to learn the lyrics, but you just find yourself singing along. This is what happens when you give yourself to listening to the Word of God.

You see, until God’s Word creates an indelible mark in your Spirit, you would not be able to produce results.

When you give yourself to the Word, you find out that for every situation or circumstance you are faced with, there is a Word in your Spirit to address that situation. This is why you must give yourself to ministry materials; get messages, Spirit lifting songs, and audio Bible note; keep hearing them until they create a lasting impression in your Spirit.

Repetition is consistency. If you would be successful in what you do, you must be consistent.

Don’t let God’s Word waft away; keep hearing it.

DECLARATION:
I give myself to God’s Word; I have a firm grip on it. I keep hearing until it produces.

SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE:

Joshua 1:8
