Monday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word DIet, 30th OCT, 2017) - Refuse carnality in service

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 8:6-7

Take a look at the ESV rendering of the above text,
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.

So many Christians are unaware that they have become carnally minded in their service to God. You see, a carnal mind is a mind that is governed by the flesh. Little wonder, scripture tells us a carnal mind is always at enmity with God. This is because the flesh and the Spirit have no affiliation and liaison. They are of opposite fields.

Every time you allow your flesh influence an action or a decision, you become carnally minded. A carnally minded person is one that sees things and approaches things through the perspective of the flesh.

What saddens me is that so many Christians have absorbed carnality into their service to God, and they are unaware of it.

Service is not a function of what men see. God measures your service in your place of worshipping. Therefore, if your service is not a worship ark to God, God sees it as unacceptable.

Your service is in your place of worshipping. Service is not in the doing; it is a heart function. In other words, your service to God is an act of worship to Him.

John 4:24 says,
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Your service to God has all to do with your Spirit. It is a spiritual affair. Every time you serve, you are having a spiritual relationship with God. Once the flesh is introduced into service, it (service) becomes unreasonable.

If your service is not within the scope of the Spirit, it is termed unreasonable; thereby making it null and void.

Refuse carnality in service; be a spiritual minded Christian. See and approach life through the perspective of God.

A carnal mind can never reap the bounties of service. This is because the blessings of service do not lie in the doing, but in the revelation of the doing.

Imbibe God’s character today; REFUSE CARNALITY!

DECLARATION:
Lord, I serve you from the perspective of the truth. I refuse to be lorded by my flesh. I submit myself to be governed by your Spirit.
