Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 31st OCT, 2017) - Humility in obedience

David Okoye
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8

The very basic things in our Christian lives are what matter most. The seemingly unimportant things turn out to be the most crucial and imperative in the Spiritual realm.

The term, obedience, is one that almost every Christian, if not all, is familiar with. But we have heard it so much that over time, we forget its essence, importance and benefits.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at one of the manifold parts of obedience, humility in obedience.

You see, obedience is a Spiritual principle; and so is humility. God is a God of principles. Our world is also guarded by principles. If you would harness the benefits of the Christian life, you must carefully observe these principles.

When you do not follow the principles, you would never get success out of life. When you study the account of Jesus, you’ll see that He unlocked something of extreme importance, because of His obedience and humility.

Philippians 2:9-10 says,
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.

Wow! Do you know when God says something, He really means it. Look at this, God gave Jesus a name that is higher than His own name as well, all because of His obedience and humility. Little wonder, we pray in the name of Jesus, and not that of God.

You see, in this Christian life, I have come to understand that God tests our obedience every single day; and so many a times, we fail to pass this test. He tests your obedience in very little things. When a man wants to instruct another, he does so either by his words or through his person. Every day, God gives us instructions by His Word and through His Spirit. The Word of God is full of instructions; instructions on how to effectively live victoriously in life.

The Spirit of God is a Shepherd and a guide. God expects that you obey every one of these instructions you receive.

One thing worthy of note is that obedience is impossible without humility. Look at our opening text; the first thing Jesus did was to humble Himself before He could be obedient. Pride and obedience can never function together.

Eliminate every iota of pride in you. Learn obedience!

DECLARATION:
Lord, I am obedient to every instruction that comes from your Word and Spirit. I get rid of every seed of pride in me. I am productive.
