Ghana have filed a protest with FIFA after they had a goal disallowed by South African referee Daniel Bennett in a 0-0 draw with Uganda, which ended their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

The West Africans, in third place in Group E, needed a win in Kampala on Saturday to keep alive their chances of competing at Russia 2018.

However, they came up short and have written to FIFA requesting a replay after they had a goal chalked off in stoppage time by Bennett and his Seychelles-born assistants Eldrick Adelaide and Steve Marie.

"The GFA filed the protest to football's world governing body, FIFA, immediately after the match at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala," The Black Stars said in a statement.

"Mr Bennett and (his) assistants denied Ghana a perfect goal in the 93rd minute with television replays showing that it was a perfect goal."

The statement added: "The GFA respectfully asked FIFA to consider the possibility of a replay in order to serve the ends of justice without fear or favour."

FIFA last month ordered a replay of Bafana Bafana's World Cup qualifier with Senegal after the referee Joseph Lamptey was found guilty of 'match manipulation'.
