EFCC arrests former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Senate President and immediate-past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim.

Spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, says Anyim is being held over an “ongoing investigation”.

Anyim was President of the Senate between 2000 and 2003, and served as SGF under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr. Anyim is being investigated for his role in the alleged mismanagement of ecological fund while in office as SGF, among other matters.



While serving as SGF in 2012, Mr. Anyim was linked to shortfalls of about N396 billion in the Ecological Funds deductions.
