Edo State Joint Account and Allocation Committee (JAAC) has declared N2.4billion as the total allocation that accrued to the 18 Local Government Councils in the state from the Federation Account for the month of October.
He spoke at the end of the monthly JAAC meeting presided over by the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House in Benin City, the state capital.
Mr Eboigbodin said out of N2.4billion total allocation to the councils, N1.1billion was allocated for the payment of teachers’ salaries while N244million was set aside for the payment of pension.
He said the total allocation distributed to the 18 local government councils in the state was put at N732million.
Eboigbodin said other decisions reached at the meeting as directed by Governor Obaseki was the lighting up of the state before Christmas.
He said the Council has set up a committee to be chaired by the 18 commissioners of the various ministries to oversee the lighting process.
According to him, the commissioners would be assisted by heads of local government administrators as the committee also comprises officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
“The lighting process is into three categories of communities; communities that have infrastructures and if there is a deficiency, such need to be improved upon.
“Communities that are yet to be connected to the power grid will come later and not fall within the period of Christmas,” Eboigbodin said.
He said the governor also commended the level of internally generated revenue by local government councils.
