Saturday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 20th JAN. 2018) - Prosper His Business
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? Luke 2:49
When the word, business is used, it connotes something of profitability and growth. The work of God is a business, which we must nurture to ensure it grows, and produces. Until you see Christianity as a business, you would not be able to meet up to God's expectations.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
The same way a serious-minded organization would terminate any staff that isn't productive (that is, those who deter and slow down the progress of the organization), God would do the same.
If your life as a Christian isn't leading to an increase in the Kingdom, you are already failing. Your Christian life is a business that must be productive. Take a look at our opening text again. Notice the word, 'must'? Here is Jesus, telling us, that the work of the Father; that is, the business of God
is mandatory.
It is something that all Christians must get involved in. In the Father's business, you do not dictate the pace of your work. You do not decide when or when not to work; you are to give everything you are to ensure that the work progresses. In the physical realm, there are principles and statutes that guide every business.
This means when these principles are duly observed, an increase is inevitable. In the same vein, there are principles that guide the business of God. One of the major reasons why businesses crumble is laziness. This is also one of the reasons why the Father's business would crumble.
Romans 12:11 says,
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord
A slothful person is an individual who dislikes work, and other forms of physical exertion. The tendency of your life as a Christian is to promote the industry. An idle man and a Christian are names that do not harmonize.
When a man becomes slothful, lethargic, and apathetic in his doings, he is bound to fail. You must be diligent in the execution of God's business. God has assigned us much to accomplish, and he would hold us answerable for the faithful performance of it.
DECLARATION
My Christian life is a business that grows and produces heavily. I am diligent, zealous, and fervent towards the expansion of the Kingdom.
