Zamfara massacre: "Funeral is becoming a daily service" - Anger as Nigerians lament incessant killings

Nigerians on Friday took to social media to lament the continuous killings going on in the country, saying “every day is becoming a burial day. A funeral is becoming a daily service.”

This is coming after gunmen attacked Birane village, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and killed 41 people in the process, according to residents.

In 2018 alone, killings have been reported in Rivers, Benue, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun States.

Nigerians, including Ekiti State Governor Fayose, Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo and Senator Shehu Sani are expressing their anger on Twitter with the hashtag #Zamfara #Zamfaramassacre.

36 human beings were killed in Birani village in Zurmi Local Government Area, Zamfara, yesterday. They woke up with dreams and hopes of a better nation like all of us, only to meet their tragic end in the hands of another of Nigeria’s preventable dysfunctions: “unknown gunmen.” — Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) February 15, 2018
