Offa Robbery: Kwara Govt Places N5m Bounty On Suspects

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Media and Communications, Muideen Akorede told journalists in the state that the money will be offered to anyone who can provide information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.
“The governor is deeply saddened by the tragic incident that happened at Offa. He considers it to be very wicked on the part of the robbers who unleashed such violence on the people and community of Offa.
“The governor is offering N5million bounty to anyone who provides information leading to the apprehension and prosecution of those suspected to be involved in this act. Anybody who can provide information which can lead to the apprehension and arrest and prosecution of these people will be given N5million,” he said.
Akorode said further that Governor Ahmed also advised security agencies in the state to aggressively begin a manhunt for the suspects behind this act promising support of the state government.
Earlier, Governor Ahmed paid a visit to injured victims at the General Hospital in Ilorin, the state capital where he promised to pay their medical bills.
Saraki Condemns Attack
The Senate President Bukola Saraki condemned the attack as a wicked act perpetrated by cruel individuals.In a Facebook post, he said, “Yesterday’s savage attack on unsuspecting citizens and establishments in Offa LGA that led to significant loss of lives and injury is a despicable act committed by cruel individuals.
“Make no mistake, there will never be any valid grounds or rationale behind such violence that has left many families without their loved ones — and one more community in grief and shock.”
Saraki also called on members of the public to collaborate with the government to prevent a reoccurrence of the ugly incident.

“We sympathize with the families of victims, residents of Offa, and the Government & people of Kwara State, on Thursday’s violent robbery attack. @PoliceNG have arrested a number of suspects & deployed extra personnel to the town, to assist in investigations and beef up security,” a tweet from the Presidency’s official Twitter handle, @NGRPresident on Saturday.
Police Confirm 17 Dead, Arrests 7 Suspects
The police in Kwara State on Saturday said seven suspects linked to the bank robbery in Offa Local Government Area of the state have been arrested confirming that 17 people died in the attack.The armed robbers had on Thursday unleashed mayhem on the town, raiding five commercial banks along the Owode Market Area. The armed robbers were said to have broke bank vaults and made away with several millions of naira. Many, including police officers, were killed and others injured in the attack, leaving behind a tale of sorrow, tears, and blood.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Lawan Ado, told journalists on Saturday morning that 17 persons were killed during the robbery attack. He added that the hoodlums abandoned some vehicles while escaping arrest and some of the abandoned vehicles have been recovered by the police.
