Wednesday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 16th May 2018) - Ensure Unity

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Hebrews 12:15

The latter part of our text as read from the AMP version says,
…in order that no root of resentment (rancour, bitterness, or hatred) shoots forth and causes trouble and bitter torment, and the many become contaminated and defiled by it.

Every child of God must understand that he/she is a tree of righteousness - a planting of the Lord in God's garden; in which He is the husbandman (Isaiah 61:3, John 15:1).

You must, therefore, take into cognizance the fact that 'every weed or thistle' that isn't dealt with in one plant has the ability to spread and ruin the whole garden. The scripture above shows us what bitterness/ resentment/hatred can do in the lives of Christians.

It starts out as a seed in one but has the ability to defile/contaminate many. Bitterness spreads like wildfire. It's like a drug that is administered through a part of the body but affects the whole body.

You are a part of the body of Christ; therefore your actions affect the body. Bitterness, at a prolonged state, has the ability to incur physical illnesses like high blood pressure, headaches, chest pains, etc. – the devil will then capitalize on these illnesses to make things worse for the believer.

Since it starts out as a seed, it is necessary that bitterness is dealt with while it is still as such. When someone offends you, you must learn to sort out the issues immediately. “…let not the sun go down upon your wrath:” Ephesians 4:26.

If you let the issues shoot forth and spread, it will take more effort to get to the root and solve it. Always keep a sharp eye out for weeds of bitterness; so as to avoid ruining your life and that of fellow brethren.

DECLARATION
I put away all bitterness and wrath from me. I will not be a source of contamination neither will I allow myself be contaminated.

SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE(S):

Ephesians 4:26; 31
