French defender retires after World Cup 2018 victory
France defender Adil Rami has called time on international football following his country’s triumph at the Russia 2018 Fifa World Cup on Sunday.
The side beat Croatia 4-2 in the final to emerge winners for the second time.
According to the Marseille center-back, the win was extraordinary and beautiful.
Rami made his debut in 2010 and played 35 games for France even though he did not play a game in the 2018 edition of the competition.
“The France team is over for me,” the 32-year-old told TF1. “Even if I did not play, I had to be ready at all times to play 90 minutes.
“I trained twice a day. The team was huge, I do not have words for that. The atmosphere is extraordinary.”
According to him, “I have never seen a team from France with such an atmosphere, so much joy, every day, even after the matches, before the matches. It’s beautiful.”
