Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has confirmed that Senator Godswill Akpabio will join the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Senate Minority leader has been touted to leave the Peoples Democratic Party APC and has met with leaders of the party.

Akpabio also visited President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in London, the United Kingdom.

Confirming the former Akwa Ibom governor’s defection, Amaechi told Sahara Reporters that “I saw him and he confirmed but I don’t know about the date.”

The APC over the past week had witnessed massive defections of its members to the opposition PDP as the 2019 election comes closer.

Lai Mohammed Reacts To Akpabio Joining APC

“I welcome it [defection of Akpabio] because all politics is local. All those who have left us did that for purely personal reasons,” he told newsmen.

“Since they say politics is a game of number, of course, we welcome gladly the defection of the minority leader. Like they say, it is one-one goalless draw.”

On whether Akpabio was being positioned for the position of the Senate President, Mohammed said “that I don’t know”.

Mohammed insisted that the recent defection of some governors, state and federal lawmakers to the main opposition party was nothing to worry about.
