Senator Akpabio leaves PDP, explains why he joined the APC
Former Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has finally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akapabio was welcomed to the APC at a packed Iko Ekpene stadium on Wednesday at a rally organised for him by the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the party.

Among Senators in attendance were: Abdullahi Yahaya, Abdullahi Gumel from Jigawa State, Muhammed Sani from Niger State, Gbenga Ashafa from Lagos State and Former Governor Nasarawa Governor, Abdullahi Adamu.

Also in attendance were: Senators Abubakar Kyari from Borno State, Babajide Omoworare from Osun State, Magnus Abe from Rivers, Mao Ohabunwa from Edo and Nelson Efiong from Akwa Ibom.

All the Senators were introduced by Ahmed Lawan, the Majority Leader of the Senate.

Lawan said: “This defection has swallowed all other defections.

“One defection that is more than 14.

“This is a defection that has shaken the Peoples Democratic Party.”

The National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, alongside Governor Godwin Obaseki, Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Gida Mustapha were also in attendance at the rally.

Meanwhile, Senator Godswill Akpabio says he decided to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), after he discovered that “President Muhammadu Buhari is a man of integrity and a nationalist.”

Akpabio pledged to take the people of Akwa Ibom State and the South South to the centre for “meaningful visibility.”

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State formally defected from the opposition PDP to the ruling APC at a mega rally held at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium on Wednesday.

He told the huge crowd that he decided to join APC because he discovered that President Muhammadu Buhari “is a man of integrity and a nationalist.”

Akpabio said that he decided to join a party that would sweep away poverty and impunity; stressing that he joined APC to “help salvage the country.”

“The country is at war and all hands must be on deck to salvage the situation and not to aggravate it.

“As keepers of national emergency, everyone should put heads together. I decided to join to emancipate the people and provide succour for the people,’’ he said.

He said that the PDP of today has no vision and the leadership is replete with arrogance.
