Woman gives birth to twins, but from two wombs (PHOTOS)

A woman identified as Jennifer Ashwood has miraculously given birth to a set of twins from each of her wombs a rare case for one in 500 million, doctors say.

Ashwood, 31, and her husband, Andrew, found out that she had a “heart-shaped” uterus when she conceived.

According to Metro UK, the couple learnt in December 2017 that she was expecting a set of twins.

But in February 2018, medical experts told her that she suffered a rare condition of abnormal uterus known as bicornuate uterus with each foetus in each womb.

They were told that bicornuate uterus is a condition where a woman has two wombs.

The couple learnt there that an egg was fertilised in each of the wombs resulting in each of the babies growing in separate wombs.

Ashwood, who is a care coordinator, successfully welcomed the twins and has returned with them to her home in Camborne, Cornwall, to join her husband and their eight-year-old daughter, Millie.

She said, “To have the two uterus’ is rare in itself, but to have an egg in both, then those to be fertilised, and then for both eggs to be in the right part, it’s a bit of a miracle.”

Concise News understands that a bicornuate womb, usually heart-shaped, poses no threat with conception, however, there are slightly higher risk of miscarriage and preterm birth.

Women in this condition can only carry a foetus in one womb.
