OPC founder Frederick Fasehun is dead
The founder of the Yoruba nationalist organisation, Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Dr Frederick Fasehun, is dead.

Fasehun died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in the early of Saturday after a brief illness was 83.

In a statement confirming his passing, Fasehun’s family said he died peacefully.

Fasehun, a medical doctor, had formed the OPC in reaction to the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
He was also a prominent member of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).

As a result of his activities aimed at overturning the annulment of the election and ensuring that Moshood Abiola is sworn in as President, Fasehun was jailed by the General Sani Abacha regime in 1996 and he remained incarcerated until 1998.

Born in Ondo State on September 21, 1935, Fasehun obtained his first degree in medicine from the University of Aberdeen Scotland. He would go on become a specialist in Anesthesiology, Acupuncture, Medicine, and Surgery.
