Ivorian Star Gervinho refuses to watch AFCON penalty shootout (Photos)

When the game goes to penalties in a crunch cup final, it’s time for everybody to pull together – to help get the team through to victory.

Unless you’re former Arsenal forward Gervinho, that is.

He bottled out of supporting his Ivory Coast colleagues during the African Cup of Nations final shootout against Ghana.

Gervinho, now at Roma, had been subbed off in stoppage time so wasn’t able to take a penalty, but instead of supporting his team-mates by group together, he sat on a chair at the side of the pitch and refused to watch.

The hilarious scenes were pretty farcical, but it didn’t matter in the end, with Ivory Coast winning 9-8.

Gervinho meanwhile, his antics have already been made into memes…
