Saturday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 7th July, 2018) - Passion for service (2)
Brethren my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. Romans 10:1-2.
The passion you have for serving God is foundational on the knowledge you have of Him. The knowledge is a bed rock by which the zeal is built on.
The word zeal is synonymous with passion, and it means the tireless devotion or fervor for a particular course or towards a particular person.
So many Christians lack passion for service because they lack the knowledge. A man who has passion without a backing of the knowledge would go against God. I always say that God is a master communicator.
Observe our opening text; it did not say ‘a knowledge’ but just ‘knowledge’. This shows us that knowledge as used in our opening text is the knowledge; the correct and vital knowledge.
Without this knowledge; one would be misdirected.
The NLT rendering puts the latter part of our verse of the day as,
I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal.
A knowledge would misdirect you; but the knowledge would take you closer to God.
This brings to mind the suicide bombings happening in the middle East, as well as the northern part of Nigeria. These suicide bombers are a reflection of the zeal.
You receive the knowledge by giving yourself to the word. The same way the suicide bombers receive their knowledge from the perverse words of men, the knowledge would come from the undiluted truth of God’s Word.
The knowledge would give you a spiritual understanding that would propel your passion for service. To increase your passion for God, and His work go after the Word. God's Word would grant you that knowledge you need.
Declaration:
I have an undying passion for service. I arm myself with the knowledge. My life is a reflection of the zeal!
